The movie is a retelling of the Drum Island arc with new music and animation. Vivi has been removed from the plot while both Nico Robin and Franky, who joined the crew after the Drum Island arc, have been added. The movie also has the Straw Hat`s new ship, the Thousand Sunny. It has been stated that Oda will be creating a new character for this movie, Wapol`s older brother, Mushul, who also appears to be a Devil Fruit user.
I must admit that i was shocked to see Franky and Robin in this movie. The twist helped the plot stray away- a bit- from what it was supposed to be. It wasn't just a retelling of the story.
I found that the plot was fairly the same, but ways were found to incorporate the newer Straw Hats. I was reluctant to watch this movie after i'd seen the last one, but seeing Franky and Robin made me reconsider.
The art in this movie was pretty solid. It seemed as if it had been improved since the Alabasta arc. Touching on the characters, i found them to be a bit different than i saw them in the actual arc. This might've been due to the fact that much had happened since the crew had gone to E.L., etc. The character interaction obviously was different.
Although many details were omitted, i believe that anyone would still find it interesting. It's the same story, but it just feels different, even a bit unnatural at times. Either way, i'd recommend this movie to any One Piece fan; it definitely isn't like the other OP films.
